XRP Price Prediction: The $1.40 Close I Need to See Today
XRP is about one penny away from the first line I need it to take. As of October 14, 2026, XRP is trading at $1.3730 and the 5 EMA sits at $1.3791. My XRP price prediction for today is simple. If we close above $1.40, I get excited. If we lose $1.29, I get nervous. In this video I walk through XRP, HYPE, Ethereum, the Fed rate hike odds and the Nasdaq 100, and I explain what each one has to do before I believe this bounce is real.
Key takeaways
- XRP at $1.3730 is battling the 5 EMA at $1.3791. That is the first gate it has to take, then the 13 EMA and the 50 EMA.
- A close at $1.40 or above is what I want to see. A drop below $1.29 is the line that gets me very nervous.
- HYPE at $82.47 needs to retake the 50 EMA at $83.59. If it loses $80.92 on a finishing candle, I expect a move to $76 to $77.
- Ethereum is back above its 50 EMA near $2,502 with a big hammer candle, but it is still under the 5 EMA.
- CME FedWatch shows a 22.7% chance of a rate hike on October 28, 2026 and an 87.8% chance of at least one hike by December 9, 2026.
- For the December 8, 2027 meeting, the most likely target range is 4.75% to 5.00% at 29.0%. That is five quarter point hikes above today.
- The Nasdaq 100 (QQQ) is under its 5 EMA with a gap to fill after it broke out above $746.99 and then slipped back under it.

XRP price prediction: the three gates at the 5, 13 and 50 EMA
Let me start with what I see on the chart this morning. For those who do not follow the technicals, we are at a massive impasse. Something has to give, up or down. XRP is battling three moving averages at once: the 5 EMA, the 13 EMA and the 50 EMA. An EMA is an exponential moving average, a line that tracks the average price over a set number of days and gives more weight to the newest days. I use the 5 and the 13 for short term direction and the 50 for the bigger trend.
The 5 EMA is the first gate. It sits at $1.3791 and XRP is at $1.3730. That is about one penny. One penny pushing us up would be delicious. Am I going to get that penny? I cannot tell you. But I can tell you we did not just give up. We are seeing the first little bit of green, what I call a baby green pepper, and I would love to see it grow into something a whole lot bigger by the end of the day.
Yesterday was a good example of why I wait for the gates. XRP shot up, like all the kids jumping on the trampoline at once, and then it came right back down. It did not crash. It did not break below the line that scares me. But it also did not get above the 5 EMA, and it did not take the 50 EMA, which would have been the best thing that could have happened. If you want the longer view on where these levels came from, I laid them out in my crypto recovery levels for XRP, HYPE, Ethereum and Bitcoin.
The $1.29 line and the $1.40 close
I have two numbers taped to my screen for XRP right now.
The first is $1.29. That is the line in the sand that gets me extremely nervous. I will be blunt: a close below $1.29 is bad. It would tell me the bounce failed and the sellers are back in control.
The second is $1.40. I said yesterday that if we could finish at $1.40 or above I would be giddy. It would be like Christmas. We did not get it. It was more like one of those weird made up holidays nobody can name. But the setup is still alive. If XRP closes above $1.40, that close would put price above the 5 EMA, the 13 EMA and most of the resistance stack in one move, and you will see me celebrate on camera.
Until one of those two lines breaks, I treat XRP as a fight that is not finished. It is putting up a good fight, and on a day like this that is all I can ask for.
HYPE needs the 50 EMA at $83.59
Hyperliquid (HYPE) is the one I have been walking you through for a couple of weeks. It came off support, pushed up, pushed up, pushed up again, broke resistance and took off. Then it came back down, and now the chart is in a full bearish motion. The 5 EMA and the 13 EMA are both pointing down, which is not good.
The way this flips is simple. HYPE has to retake the 50 EMA, which sits at $83.59. As of October 14, 2026, HYPE is at $82.47. That is a little over a buck, about $1.20, and we could easily do that today. Yesterday we got within pennies of it.
Here is the line I am watching on the downside. If HYPE breaks $80.92 on a finishing candle, it gets nasty for the next 48 hours. I will be blunt. Lose that and we are going down, and I would expect a move all the way to $76 to $77. I do not want to lose that level.
None of this changes how I feel about the project. Hyperliquid is a fantastic project with fantastic revenue. It actually earns. So I like it and I am invested in it, along with Ethereum and XRP. But liking a project and ignoring its chart are two different things.
Ethereum is above the 50 EMA with a hammer candle
Ethereum is the healthiest of the three this morning. I went over to the ETH chart to see whether they are all painting the same picture, and they are not.
Ethereum is sitting right above its 50 EMA, which is where I want it. The 50 EMA is near $2,502 and the current price is around $2,511. It printed a massive hammer candle, which is a candle with a long lower wick that shows buyers stepped in and pushed price back up after a dip. That is the kind of candle I like to see at support.
The catch is that Ethereum is still under its 5 EMA. If it can take that out, it gets beautiful, because then price would be above the short term average and the long term average at the same time.
Fed rate hike odds for October, December and the end of 2027
Now for the thing that is affecting all of this. Fuel costs are adding to the inflation problem, and that is showing up in the rate market.
The Federal Reserve (the Fed) meets on October 28, 2026, about two weeks from now. The CME FedWatch tool, which reads the odds from Fed funds futures, shows a 77.3% chance of no change and a 22.7% chance of a rate hike at that meeting. The current target range is 3.75% to 4.00%. If the Fed hikes, I think the markets tumble. If it holds, since a hike is already partly priced in, we should actually get a little bit of a lift. I wrote about what happened the last time the Fed raised rates and mortgage rates went down anyway.
By the December 9, 2026 meeting, the odds flip. FedWatch shows an 87.8% chance of at least one hike by then, with 68.7% on a range of 4.00% to 4.25%. So the market expects the hike to come in December.
The scary part is the end of next year. Not long ago traders were calling for one hike, maybe two altogether. Now, for the December 8, 2027 meeting, the single most likely outcome is a target range of 4.75% to 5.00% at 29.0%. That is five quarter point hikes above where we sit today. Another 25.4% sits on 4.50% to 4.75%, and 19.6% sits on 5.00% to 5.25%. Only 0.3% sits on the range we are in right now.

That is incredibly high, and in my opinion it is dangerous. The national debt keeps going higher, higher rates make that debt cost more, and the market is going to feel it eventually. As the Fed raises rates, markets normally take a hit in the short term. I still think something is going to happen on that front, and it is the main reason I am not chasing anything until the charts prove themselves.
The Nasdaq 100 gap and why crypto follows it
I watch the Nasdaq 100 through the Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) because crypto tends to follow the tech trade. A few days ago I told you QQQ had gotten way above its 5 EMA and that we should expect it to come down. It did. Now it is the opposite problem. QQQ is way under the 5 EMA.
When price gets this stretched below the 5, I normally see some green. The chart left a gap, and gaps usually get filled. What I expect is for price to come up, touch the 5 EMA with a wick, and then we find out whether it bounces or gets dragged back down. The early trading was already moving up as I recorded.
The bigger level is $746.99. That was the breakout line, and QQQ ran all the way to about $763 after breaking it. Now it has slipped back below that line, to $743.57 as of October 14, 2026, which is a little too much give back for my taste. I expect a retest of that line shortly. If it holds, this sets up well. So I am kind of bullish, but I am waiting to see.
Why does this matter for XRP and HYPE? Because when the Nasdaq 100 does what it needs to do, crypto in general usually gets the room it needs to do the same.
Common questions
What is the XRP price prediction for today?
I am not predicting a number. I am watching two lines. XRP at $1.3730 needs to take the 5 EMA at $1.3791 first, and a close above $1.40 would tell me the bounce is real. A close below $1.29 would tell me it failed.
Why does the 5 EMA matter so much?
The 5 EMA is the fastest of the three averages I use, so it is the first thing price has to clear before the 13 and the 50 come into play. If price cannot even take the 5, there is no reason to talk about a bigger move.
What happens if HYPE drops below $80.92?
If HYPE breaks $80.92 on a finishing candle, I expect the next 48 hours to get ugly and I would look for a move down to $76 to $77. Until then, the level I want back is the 50 EMA at $83.59.
Will the Fed raise rates in October 2026?
As of October 14, 2026, CME FedWatch shows a 22.7% chance of a hike at the October 28 meeting and an 87.8% chance of at least one hike by the December 9 meeting. The market thinks December is more likely than October.
Is Ethereum in better shape than XRP right now?
Yes. Ethereum is above its 50 EMA near $2,502 with a hammer candle, while XRP is still under all three of its moving averages. Both are still under their 5 EMA, so neither one has fully turned yet.
