Webull vs Robinhood comes down to what kind of investor you are. Both charge $0 commissions on U.S. stocks, ETFs and options, and both pay 3.6% APY on cash if you buy their paid plan. Webull Premium costs $40 a year against $50 for Robinhood Gold, and Webull has paper trading, bonds and mutual funds, while Robinhood charges a lower standard margin rate of 5.25% against Webull’s 8.74%, according to each broker’s own pages as of October 29, 2026.

I have used both apps, and I place my own trades on Webull. That is a bias, and I am telling you up front. So in this comparison I only use numbers I could confirm on each company’s own pages, I show you where Robinhood wins, and I tell you who I think should pick which one.

Key takeaways

  • Both are SEC registered broker dealers and members of FINRA and SIPC, so securities and cash are protected up to $500,000, including $250,000 of cash, if the firm fails. Neither covers market losses.
  • Stocks, ETFs and options trade with no commission at both. Index options cost $0.50 a contract at Webull on certain index options and $0.50 at Robinhood, or $0.35 with Gold.
  • The paid plans: Webull Premium is $3.99 a month or $40 a year. Robinhood Gold is $5 a month or $50 a year. Both pay 3.6% APY on cash as of October 29, 2026.
  • Margin: Robinhood charges 5.25% on balances up to $50,000 for everyone. Webull charges 8.74% on a standard account and as low as 4.15% with Premium.
  • Moving out costs $75 per stock transfer at Webull and $100 at Robinhood.
  • Webull offers paper trading, bonds and mutual funds. Robinhood says it does not support mutual funds or bonds.
  • Investing and event contracts can lose money. Past results do not predict future results.

Is Webull better than Robinhood?

Webull is better for investors who want tools, and Robinhood is better for investors who want the simplest app and cheap margin without paying a subscription. That is the honest answer, and it is the same one most of the big comparison sites land on.

Here is how I would sort it in one sentence each. If you want to learn charts, practice with fake money first, trade futures or buy bonds, pick Webull. If you want one clean screen, you borrow on margin and you do not want to pay for a plan, Robinhood has the edge. If you are willing to pay for the plan, Webull Premium is $10 a year cheaper than Gold and gives a bigger IRA match.

Both companies are big and public. Robinhood Markets reported 28.7 million funded customers and $396 billion of platform assets for the third quarter of 2026 in its October 27, 2026 earnings release. Webull Corporation, listed on the Nasdaq as BULL, reported 5.1 million funded accounts and $28.5 billion of customer assets at the end of June 2026. Robinhood is far larger. Bigger does not mean better for you, but it does tell you neither one is a fly by night app.

Is Webull or Robinhood safer?

They are equally safe on the protections that matter most. Webull Financial LLC and Robinhood Financial LLC are both broker dealers registered with the SEC and members of FINRA and SIPC. SIPC protects securities and cash up to $500,000 per account, with a $250,000 limit on cash, if a member firm fails and customer assets go missing. You can look up either firm on FINRA BrokerCheck.

Both add excess coverage on top of SIPC through underwriters at Lloyd’s of London. Robinhood’s protection page lists up to $1 billion in aggregate, with up to $50 million in securities per customer including $1.9 million of cash. Webull’s policy for its omnibus clearing accounts lists a $100 million aggregate limit and a $1.9 million cash sublimit per account, which I covered in my full Webull review.

Cash you sweep to partner banks gets FDIC coverage at both. Webull says its Cash Management program reaches up to $5 million. Robinhood lists up to $2.5 million for individual accounts and $5 million for joint accounts.

Two warnings apply to both. First, none of this protects you from a stock going down. Second, crypto is different. Robinhood says plainly that crypto held through Robinhood Crypto is not FDIC insured or SIPC protected, and Webull holds crypto and event contracts outside the stock account too. Check which company holds each account before you move big money into it.

Webull vs Robinhood fees: every fee I could confirm

For a buy and hold investor, both apps cost close to nothing. The fees show up when you borrow, trade index options, wire money or leave. Here is the side by side from Webull’s fee schedule and Robinhood Financial’s fee schedule.

  • Stocks, ETFs and options: $0 commission at both on U.S. listed securities.
  • Index options: Webull charges $0.50 per contract on certain index options. Robinhood charges $0.50 per contract, or $0.35 with Gold.
  • Transfer your account out: $75 at Webull and $100 at Robinhood, for a full or partial ACATS transfer. Transfers in are free at Webull.
  • Wire out: $25 domestic and $45 international at Webull. Robinhood lists $25 for an outgoing wire.
  • Instant withdrawals: Robinhood charges up to 1.75% to withdraw to a debit card instantly, with a $1 minimum and a $150 maximum. Standard ACH is free at both.
  • Regulatory fees on sales: both pass through the SEC fee and the FINRA trading activity fee. These go to regulators, not the broker.
  • Market data: Webull charges $2.99 a month each for Level 2 and OPRA options data on a standard account, and $0 with Premium.
  • Paper statements: Robinhood charges $2 a month for paper statements on accounts worth under $50.

How do they make money if trades are free? The same way. Both firms list payment for order flow, interest on uninvested cash, margin interest, stock lending and subscriptions in their Form CRS relationship summaries. Robinhood’s, effective October 1, 2026, also notes it has a money incentive for customers to trade more. That is true of every zero commission app, and it is a good reason to have your own rules.

Webull Premium vs Robinhood Gold: is the paid plan worth it?

This is where the real money difference lives, because the best rates at both brokers sit behind the subscription. Here is what each plan included on October 29, 2026.

Webull Premium

  • Price: $3.99 a month or $40 a year when paid annually, per Webull’s help center.
  • Cash: 3.6% APY in Cash Management, against 0.5% APY on a standard account. Webull’s offer page also listed a promotional 1.4% APY Booster for 30 days on up to $10,000 of cash, subject to its terms.
  • IRA match: 3.5% on contributions with Premium against 1% standard, and a 1% match on IRA transfers against 0%.
  • Margin: as low as 4.15% with Premium against 8.74% standard.
  • Data: Level 2 and OPRA options data included.

Robinhood Gold

  • Price: $5 a month or $50 a year, with a one time 30 day free trial, per Robinhood’s Gold overview.
  • Cash: 3.6% APY on eligible brokerage cash as of September 17, 2026. Robinhood’s High Yield Cash program is for Gold members.
  • IRA match: 3% on eligible contributions with Gold against 1% without. You must keep the matched assets in the IRA for five years and keep Gold for one year after your first Gold match, per Robinhood’s IRA match FAQ.
  • Margin: the first $1,000 of margin is included. Above that you pay the same rates as everyone else.
  • Other: bigger instant deposits, a lower index options fee of $0.35, and lower futures and event contract commissions.

Run the math on $10,000 of cash. At 3.6% APY that earns about $360 in a year at either broker. Subtract the plan and you keep about $320 at Webull and $310 at Robinhood. Without a plan, Webull still pays 0.5%, or about $50, while Robinhood’s High Yield Cash rate is a Gold feature. If you keep cash in the account waiting to buy, the plan pays for itself fast at either one.

The IRA match is the bigger gap. On a $7,000 contribution, a 3.5% match is $245 and a 3% match is $210. Both come with rules and both can change, so read the terms in the app before you count on it.

Want to compare the app yourself? Open a Webull account through my link (affiliate link, I get paid if you sign up). Any new account offer is subject to Webull’s current terms and eligibility, so check the offer page for the current terms before you deposit. Investing involves risk, including the loss of money you put in, and past results do not predict future results.

Webull vs Robinhood margin rates: which is cheaper?

Robinhood wins on standard margin, and it is not close. Robinhood’s margin rates page listed 5.25% for balances up to $50,000 as of September 17, 2026, falling to 4.75% from $100,000 to $1 million and 4.20% above $50 million. Those tiers are the same for Gold and non Gold accounts, but Gold members pay nothing on the first $1,000. You need at least $2,000 in the account to use margin there.

Webull’s offer page listed 8.74% for a standard account and rates as low as 4.15% with Premium. The “as low as” matters. The posted Premium rate is the best tier, so check the rate your balance gets inside the app before you borrow.

Bar chart comparing Webull vs Robinhood margin interest on a $10,000 loan for one year: Webull standard at 8.74% costs $874, Robinhood at 5.25% costs $525, and Robinhood Gold costs $473 because the first $1,000 is included
Yearly interest on a $10,000 margin loan at posted base rates. Robinhood Gold also costs $50 a year. Webull Premium lists rates as low as 4.15%.

On a $10,000 loan held for a year, that is about $874 at Webull’s standard rate, $525 at Robinhood and about $473 with Robinhood Gold before its $50 fee. My honest advice as a former advisor: if margin interest is a big line in your budget, the broker is not your problem. Margin can lose more than you put in. Use it rarely, size it small, and have a plan to pay it back.

What can you trade on Webull vs Robinhood?

Both cover the basics: U.S. stocks, ETFs, options, fractional shares, crypto, futures, prediction markets and IRAs. The differences are at the edges.

  • Bonds and mutual funds: Webull’s Form CRS lists bonds and mutual funds. Robinhood’s list of supported investments says it does not support mutual funds or bonds and fixed income trading.
  • Paper trading: Webull has a paper trading simulator built in, so you can practice with fake money. When I checked Robinhood’s product pages on October 29, 2026, I did not find a paper trading mode.
  • Crypto: both offer it through separate crypto companies, and it depends on your state.
  • Fractional shares: both let you start with a few dollars. My guide on how to buy fractional shares walks through it step by step.
  • New at Robinhood: at its 2026 HOOD Summit, Robinhood announced social features, in app AI agents and crypto perpetual futures with up to 10X leverage, with 24/7 trading on select stocks still rolling out.

Is Webull or Robinhood better for day trading and charts?

Webull was built for traders, and it shows. You get real time charts with dozens of indicators, Level 2 data, a desktop app, a browser version and paper trading. Robinhood answered with Robinhood Legend, its desktop platform, and it has closed a lot of the gap. Still, when I draw my 5, 13 and 50 EMAs and my panic lines, I do it on Webull.

The rule change this year matters more than the app. On April 14, 2026, the SEC approved FINRA’s plan to end the $25,000 pattern day trader minimum, according to Schwab’s summary. The new rules took effect June 4, 2026, and brokers have until October 20, 2027 to put them in place. Webull said in an April 15, 2026 press release that it will support the change. Robinhood said at its 2026 summit that intraday buying power of up to 4x is coming. Check the rules shown in your own account before you place a day trade.

My warning is the same at both brokers: most people who day trade lose money, and leverage makes it happen faster. Practice first.

Webull vs Robinhood for futures and prediction markets

Both now offer futures and event contracts in the same app as your stocks. The costs are close, and the details depend on which contract you trade.

  • Futures at Webull: $0.25 per contract for micros, $0.70 for minis and $1.25 for regular contracts, per Webull’s futures page.
  • Futures at Robinhood: $0.75 per contract per side, or $0.50 with Gold, before exchange and regulatory fees, per the Robinhood Derivatives fee schedule.
  • Event contracts at Webull: a $0.01 commission plus a $0.01 exchange fee, or 2 cents per contract, per Webull’s event contract fees page. The contracts come from Kalshi.
  • Event contracts at Robinhood: a commission set by a formula that depends on the price, capped at $0.01 per contract, with a lower rate for Gold, plus an exchange fee of up to $0.01, per its event contracts overview. Robinhood lists several exchanges, including Kalshi and ForecastEx.

For micro futures, Webull is cheaper. For regular contracts, Robinhood is cheaper, especially with Gold. For event contracts, the difference is a penny or less per contract, so pick the app where the market you want is listed. I compared all the prediction market apps in Kalshi vs Polymarket vs Robinhood, and I walk through placing a trade in my Webull prediction markets guide. Event contracts can lose money, and you should trade only money you can afford to lose.

Is Webull or Robinhood better for beginners?

Robinhood is easier on day one, and Webull is better by month three. Robinhood’s app has fewer buttons, so a brand new investor can buy an ETF without getting lost. Webull has more on the screen, which feels like a lot at first.

Here is why I still send beginners to Webull. Paper trading lets you make your first hundred mistakes with fake money. The charts let you learn real technical analysis instead of guessing. And because I teach on Webull, everything you see in my videos looks like what is on your screen. When I taught finance in the classroom, the students who practiced first did better than the ones who jumped in. The tool is the same.

What matters more than the app: start small, buy broad funds before single stocks, and do not touch options or margin until you can explain how you could lose money on them. If you want a weekly plan in plain English, my free Sunday Letter is built for that.

How to move your stocks from Robinhood to Webull

You do not have to sell to switch. Brokers move stocks between them through the ACATS system, and your shares and cost basis go with them. Robinhood charges $100 for a full or partial ACATS transfer out, and Webull does not charge to transfer in.

How to transfer stocks from Robinhood to Webull without selling.

  1. Open and verify your Webull account

Sign up, verify your identity and wait for approval. The account type should match, so move an individual account to an individual account and an IRA to an IRA.

  2. Find your Robinhood account details

In the Robinhood app, find your account number and download a recent statement. The name and address on both accounts should match.

  3. Check what can move

Look at your positions. Crypto is held in a separate company and does not move through ACATS with your stocks, so handle it on its own.

  4. Start the transfer from Webull

In the Webull app, open the transfer in section, choose a full or partial ACATS transfer, pick Robinhood as the other broker and enter your Robinhood account number.

  5. Plan for the fee

Robinhood takes its $100 ACATS fee from your cash balance, so leave enough cash there or the transfer can be charged another way.

  6. Confirm when it lands

When the shares show up at Webull, check every position and the cost basis against your Robinhood statement.

Plenty of people keep both. Nothing stops you from holding an account at each, as long as you keep track of your taxes and your cost basis across them.

My verdict: Webull vs Robinhood

After years as an advisor and a teacher, here is how I sort it.

  • Pick Webull if you want to learn charts, practice with paper trading, trade micro futures, buy bonds or mutual funds, or you want the cheaper paid plan with the bigger IRA match.
  • Pick Robinhood if you want the simplest screen, you use margin without a paid plan, or you trade regular futures contracts and plan to pay for Gold.
  • Pick neither yet if you want someone to manage your money for you. Both are self directed brokers, and neither gives investment advice.

I use Webull for my own trades because the charts are where I make my decisions, and paper trading is how I tell people to practice. That is my opinion, not advice. Look at your own habits and pick the app you will use well.

Ready to try Webull? Open your Webull account through my link (affiliate link, I get paid if you sign up). Any new account offer is subject to Webull’s current terms and eligibility, so check the offer page for the current terms before you deposit.
